Weekend Meals

Our Saturday meal preparation and delivery program is under way, if you would like to volunteer your time or cooking skills or would like to be on the list for a delivered meal please contact anyone from Helping Hands. All inquiries are kept confidential. We have provided meals for 2 or 3 Barnard residents each week.

Meal Preparation Signup

Please sign up for two meal preparation times and email your dates back to Mary. Currently we have 11 volunteers, so all the slots may not be taken. Mary will put together a list of willing substitutes, so that we will be covered in case of sickness or some unexpected occurrence. Each date should have 2 volunteers. You may sign up as a pair or single and someone else will join you. Thanks! If you know your schedule and have a specific date or dates that would work for you, please send me an email, Mary Blanton and she will continue to work out the schedule. Many thanks for all your help.

A few days before you are scheduled to cook, please check with Kim at 234-9688 or Mary at 234-5541 to find out who you will be cooking for, where they live and how many meals are needed.

If you need to find a substitute for your cooking slot, first try to see if you can exchange with someone on the above list. If not, we have a list of people who have volunteered to cook. Or, if you need help with meal delivery, here is a list of people who have volunteered to deliver meals. We also have a bin of leftover containers, aluminum foil pans, jars etc. at the store for meal delivery. If you don’t find what you need, check with Kim or Carolyn to get one of the containers the store uses.

Candee Christoforides who is helping us set up this program will also facilitate it. We now have 5 pairs of cooking volunteers. Once every four or five weeks, these pairs will cook and deliver a Saturday hot meal to Barnard residents who are house bound. Please contact us if you know of someone who would like to receive a meal or if you would like to volunteer to be a cook, a substitute cook or help visit and deliver a Saturday meal.
